Here we are again as the first seasonal lawn application time approaches. If you seen companies already applying their first product it’s not likely going to be very effective. Seasonal lawn applications must be applied at the right time, temperature and weather conditions for each application. They are manufactured and blended to preform their best when certain conditions are met with the soil, weeds (including weed seed), grass, temperature and moisture. The first lawn application generally should be applied when the daytime soil temperature is 45 degrees or slightly above. We were fast approaching those temperatures until Mother Nature stepped in and froze the ground again and provided snow. The good news is the snow will increase the moisture content in the soil when thawed which helps the grass and plantings in your landscape.
Our Basic 5 Lawn Application Program is designed and more importantly applied to have a maximum impact on a variety of weeds and provide food for the grass. Each lawn application is a unique blend of products for that specific time of the season and must be applied at eh correct time. Our middle application is specifically applied for grub control. This application is normally applied in late June. Seasonal lawn application (weed & feed) programs are a must for the long term health of your lawn. They are designed to slowly release fertilizer to help feed and thicken your grass while attacking a variety of weeds throughout the growing season. Their performance should be measured year to year not month to month. Normally, it takes years for a lawn to be properly restored. The only seeding you should consider for the spring is small bare spots for spot seeding. All lawn over-seeding and complete lawn restorations are preformed in the fall. If you need some help getting your lawn back healthy and looking its best give Ingram Lawn & Garden a call. Need some help controlling insects like ticks and mosquitos on your property we take care of that as well. Several lawn care and lawn applications tips for the spring for the best health and care of your lawn. It’s important to know when you fertilize, apply herbicides for weed control while weeds have not yet begun to germinate and how moist to keep your lawn. Generally, we apply our first lawn care application when the average daily soil temperature is above 50 degrees for at least three days in a row. So, when you see lawn care application companies spraying to applying their product in colder temperatures you can bet you are not getting your money’s worth. Crabgrass is also best applied when the forsythia bushes have not yet completed their yellow blooms. When the bushes begin to bloom we release trucks to get that early crabgrass control & pre-emergence herbicide applied. The rate of application for each of these products will vary for us depending on the current health of the lawn and what may have happened in the fall. If we had seeded the property the fall we may switch to a spray herbicide application to control certain weeds. watering for your lawn should not start until spring has almost passed if not later. Let Mother Nature run her course.
Here is a few other spring tips to help your lawn in the early spring.

Seasonal lawn application and lawn restoration programs at Ingram Lawn & Garden is something we pride ourselves in completing correctly. Basic seasonal lawn applications programs or weed and feed application programs from Ingram Lawn & Garden include five basic applications. Most lawn application companies have so many properties to apply product they often miss one of the most basic steps. Each lawn application should be applied for maximum effectiveness when Mother Nature allows you. In the spring the soil temperature should normally be above 45 degrees. Often you will see lawn application companies spreading or spraying product when the ground is still frozen. The first two and last two applications of the season generally include a fertilizer and some blend of herbicides. Our middle application from our Basic 5 Program now includes a grub application. Grubs have been spreading every season for the last few years so we have made this application mandatory. The timing of every application is critical to each of their success. If your lawn is cut a day or two after the application you have essentially wasted part of your money.
Lawn restorations and core lawn aeration should only be completed in the fall when temperatures and weather conditions are ideal. We only over-seed in the fall for best possible results. The last few years we have started preparation for lawn restorations and core lawn aeration in August but the actual lawn aeration and over-seeding does not take place until middle or late September at the earliest.
Get the best possible value of your seasonal lawn application program by choosing a company that applies each application within the two or three week window Mother Nature allows each year. Each year these dates of applications change slightly as weather patterns for each season change. Ingram Lawn & Garden supplements our Basic 5 Lawn Application Programs with additional lawn and garden grub applications, crabgrass control applications, specialty weed applications, liquid spray lawn applications, organic lawn applications, and outdoor inspect mosquito and tick control programs. We service residential, commercial and special event customers. Call Ingram Lawn & Garden if you require a lawn application and outdoor insect control professional. We service; Ambler, Blue Bell, Dresher, Flourtown, Ft. Washington, Harleysville, Horsham, Lower Gwynedd, Lafayette Hill, Lansdale, Maple Glen, North wales, Oreland, Upper Dublin and Wyndmoor areas.
Getting prepared for extensive lawn restoration and core lawn aeration on properties of all shapes and sizes begins in August. The lawn restoration process and methods take on many forms. Aside from our Basic 5 Lawn Application program which is detailed on our web site, ingramlawncare.com , we also preform a number of extensive lawn restoration programs. The first step for us is to carefully evaluate the condition of the lawn looking at such things as: the soil ph, sun and shade patterns, type and amount of weeds, types of grass, drainage, insects, organic matter, stones, etc. From this evaluation we can determine a very specific game plan on how each lawn gets restored. Often times in August we will accelerate killing off the weeds in preparation of a core lawn aeration process and over-seeding we normally do in September. Just before the lawn aeration process we may add organic material, top soil, etc. then over-seed with a variety of specific high quality grass seed blends. Quality grass seed and the quality of the aeration job will help produce quality results. If a landscape contractor uses lower quality grade grass seed the results will show the following spring and summer.
Lawn restoration and core lawn aeration programs need the full cooperation of the homeowner. The best results are achieved by keeping the newly seeded lawn well watered for an extensive period after it is seeded. Ingram Lawn & Garden begins construction of several large landscape contractor renovations underway within their serving area of Montgomery County and Bucks County, Pa. Each landscape renovation begins with the overall landscape design drawings which we design and furnish. The landscape concept drawing becomes the roadmap for the future landscape work. The first task is the full landscape or sectional landscape deconstruction. This includes: taking down trees, tree stumps, pruning large trees, removing bushes, bush stumps, removal of existing plantings which at times are planted into a holding landscape bed for use within the landscape at a different location within the landscape. These areas are cleaned up free of weeds and any other previous landscape material. Sometimes town permits are required (drawings created & submitted for approval) and underground services are located so we know where to dig. Next in the process are the construction and installation of hardscapes (patio’s, walls, pathways, stones or boulders, and drainage pipes. Often times we are removing the old hardscapes and preparing for the new. Prep work for lightning, sprinkler systems, and many of the other not seen work is completed. All the landscape beds are defined and soil prep work begins for future planting. It’s important to try and achieve quality high nutrient soil for plant health and success. All of this work is often scheduled over a period of months so the property stays in transition during this time but remains clean and orderly. New landscape plants are often installed depending on size first. We want to plant the largest plants first. These larger plantings require larger holes and sometimes heavy equipment to bring the plants in and place them in the hole. Landscape renovation is for us a lot of work but the best part of what we do. We get to take the vision of the homeowner of their landscape property and make it come to life. Once the installation is completed our job does not stop. We maintain the landscape so that it stays looking as nice as it did from day one and the plants remain watered and healthy. If your looking for a landscape contractor, landscape service, lawn care service, for a small, medium or large landscape or lawn renovation give Ingram Lawn & Garden a call. We typically work in Ambler, Blue Bell, Lafayette Hill, Jenkintown, North Wales, Ft. Washington, Lansdale, Gwynedd, Flourtown, Wyndmoor, Harleysville, Pa. and other surrounding areas. If you need help with lawn renovations like lawn aerating and over-seeding call for an estimate and added to our fall schedule. Work on lawn aerations begins very soon.
As part of our lawn restoration process core lawn aerations and over-seeding in Ambler, Blue, Bell, North Wales, Lafayette Hill, Fort Washington and Dresher, Pa. which typically begin right around now are being held up due to the weather. We need lower temperatures both during the day and at night and more moisture. The aeration portion would likely go OK although the ground is very dry but the grass seed needs consistent moisture to germinate and right now we just are not receiving any rain. The forecast at the end of this week is expected to return back to “typical” temperature’s and moisture for this time of the year and if so, we will be rolling out the lawn aerator and loading the grass seed. We have plenty of properties to aerate and over-seed in Ambler, Fort Washington, Blue Bell, Dresher, North Wales and Lafayette Hill, Pa. areas. We also aerate and over-seed in surrounding towns Lansdale, Horsham, East Norriton, Pa. areas and will likely add each of those towns for lawn cutting service next season. If your on our list for core lawn aeration and over-seeding this fall we will be in touch with you shortly on preparations. For lawn aerating and over-seeding to work properly the ground must be kept moist for the following three weeks at least. Grass seed needs time to germinate so lower day and night temperatures will help the ground retain moisture longer. If your interested in core lawn aerating send us a note or give us a call @ email@example.com or call 267-844-3733. You can also visit our web site @ ingramlawncare.com.
One of the best things you can do for your lawn’s health each year is core lawn aeration and over-seeding. Lawn aeration loosens compacted soil to allow more oxygen into the soil. Over seeding your lawn with the correct blended seed mix (for sun or shaded areas) will help thicken the lawn in the fall but you will more likely see better results the following spring. The preparation of lawn aeration and over-seeding is important as well as the execution and care for your lawn afterwards. We are very careful to insure your lawn gets cut just before we come in and once we aerate and over-seed that is just when the real work begins afterwards. Typically, your lawn does not get cut for at least 2-3 weeks afterwards and the ground needs to stay moist (not saturated) during that span as well so the grass seed germinates. Even after that span of about three weeks you cannot let your lawn dry out for too long as the newly germinated seeds need good moisture to grow well. The lower over night temperatures in the fall will hold the moisture in the ground longer which reduces the homeowners work load. Getting thick lush lawn takes some effort by us and the homeowner but with a little bit of effort positive results will happen. If you aerate and seed several years in a row you will find the best result for a nice thick lush lawn. Thick lush healthy lawns are much easier to care for. One note, you still need to maintain your lawn with seasonal fertilizer and herbicides. Weed seed finds the weakest link (bare spots) in your lawn and quickly grows so thick lush lawns reduce the likelihood of that happening.
Hard to be believe in just a little more than eight weeks we will be lawn cutting again. Once the daytime temperature’s are high enough to raise the ground temperature above 45-50 degrees the grass will start growing again. For us at Ingram Lawn & Garden that’s just fine. This time of the year we have already started laying out new routes for lawn cutting our equipment is being serviced and we are buying whatever new equipment we may need for the upcoming spring season. Our first lawn applications will likely begin in late March and we will begin spring cleanups and adding top soil and seed to properties that have low spots. Our spring cleanups, hardwood mulch applications, landscape work and lawn renovation work is already scheduled for the start of spring. We just recently power washed all of our mowers so they look new again. If your looking for lawn applications service, lawn cutting, lawn mowing, mulch, landscape contractor and landscape service for your property give Ingram Lawn & Garden a call or complete one of our online forms. We typically service Ambler, Blue Bell, North Wales, Flourtown, Lafayette Hill, Dresher, Fort Washington, Wyndmoor areas and all the surrounding towns.
A couple of common questions we are asked about our annual lawn care treatment or lawn service programs (Five Step) is it pet friendly and is it environmental friendly. Industry wide turf control manufactures and their products have come under intense regulation and evaluation. There has been a heightened awareness of environmental protection and environmental sustainability. Over the past five year years the amount of regulation on the turf care industry and their products has increased dramatically. Eco-friendly and pet-friendly products are now the norm rather than a special order requirement. For us the lawn service providers we only use products that fall within those categories unless we are dealing with a specialize treatment program. These lawn treatment programs where more intense chemicals may be needed are usually only used in very small areas of the lawn. Advances in turf control products have vastly improved in just the past five years where improved lawn care products are available to us across the board.
Another major environmental concern is soil erosion. In the U.S., nearly 6 billion tons of soil wash or blow away each year. Turfgrass is the biggest defense against soil erosion because it binds the soil more effectively than any other plant. Each grass has an extensive root system and up to 90% of the weight of grass is in its roots. Healthy grass areas absorb rainfall six times more effectively than a wheat field and four times better than a hay field (Maryland Agricultural Statistics Service). A proper annual lawn care program along with proper lawn cutting techniques will help improve your lawns overall health and appearance.
